I'm not sure what you mean by a "proper cable modem/router" because the one I use is fully featured and does WiFi as well as network cable connections.

I guess you never had to use a 56k modem or a Sentech MyBroadband or iBurst connection? Where you were lucky if you got 64kbps instead of 10Mbps or 50Mbps.

If you want to install business class routers and equipment you are welcome to spend several thousand Rand per month on a business contract and several tens of thousands of Rand on "proper" equipment you can mount in a rack, but it's complete overkill for the average household. No one is forcing you to use "cheap" equipment that lasts for years.Donn Edwardshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07954994300802439618noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19298483.post-72920511104438251732020-11-24T10:25:18.491+02:002020-11-24T10:25:18.491+02:00Oh dear, seems like I am in for huge disappointmen...Oh dear, seems like I am in for huge disappointment overall when Vuma Reach / Mitchells Fibre finally installs this "CPE" in my home. No proper fibre capable modem/router as promised by Afrihost, the deal is 28 day pre pay? FFS. Judging by your pics and others, a huge mess of cheap devices, excess cables and power adapters, McGyver set ups to incorporate a UIP (GIZUU),which all harks back to the stone age days of internet.Keeganhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16785259326953477508noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19298483.post-54018243437590691942020-04-24T11:21:41.979+02:002020-04-24T11:21:41.979+02:00Do not mess with the CPE! Plug the CPE's transformer/power supply into your backup power source, in the same way you would plug in the transformer/power supply of the Wifi router. I am using an inverter and it works fine. If you can, get a full sine wave inverter.Donn Edwardshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07954994300802439618noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19298483.post-19945843238319415222020-04-23T23:13:48.673+02:002020-04-23T23:13:48.673+02:00I am technologically disadvantaged! Specifically as I cannot detect some sort of port in the cpe box from which to "plug in" my back-up power source (which, by the way, I am still working on). The cpe unit seems to be a sealed unit, or is it?Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12728453323516149484noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19298483.post-72133935818684583242019-03-20T15:54:30.108+02:002019-03-20T15:54:30.108+02:00Don't forgot to look at https://www.fibretiger...Don't forgot to look at https://www.fibretiger.co.za to see the best fibre isps in your area and network ! Is 10.100.10.1 the CPE IP?

Will be much appreciated

Regards,
ReinhartAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13292951721115280765noreply@blogger.com
